Russia: Putin visits Siberia flooding victims in Tulun

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the flood-hit south-eastern Siberian city of Tulun on Friday, meeting with victims of the Siberian flood disaster.
At a temporary accommodation centre for the victims, the Russian leader met with six-year-old Matvei Safronov, whose family home was destroyed in the floods.
The boy told Putin and that on September 1 he would go to a kindergarten which is currently being refurbished after the severe floods damaged the building.
The president promised little Matvei he would soon visit Tulun again to keep an eye on the recovery of the town, and also advised the boy not to eat too much candy.
At least 25 people died in the flash floods which hit the the Irkutsk region at the end of June, while nine more people remain missing.
According to Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), more than 40 homes in the town of Tulun remain flooded at the moment of writing.
