Russia: Wounded elk now seeks new shelter after rescue

A wounded elk calf that had been lying with a gunshot wound for days is now looking for a new home after being rescued by locals and taken to a shelter in Russia’s Kemerovo Region on Monday.

The animal was given an X-ray by a local vet who discovered the elk’s leg had been crushed by the gunshot wound.

“We accepted the animal since other organizations refused to accept it,” said manager Tatiana Medvedeva who added that the shelter was not fit for the wild animal.

Volunteers have now launched a social media campaign to find a fitting place for the elk to limp to recovery.
