US President Donald Trump commended North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for taking a “courageous” step towards peace, by committing to “complete denuclearisation” of the Korean Peninsula. He spoke at a press conference following his meeting with Kim, Tuesday.
Trump stressed the importance of what he called a “very historic” summit, noting that “anyone can make war, but only the most courageous can make peace.”
The US president also discussed the document, which was signed with the North Korean leader, saying that “it is very comprehensive.”
When asked about the sanctions, Trump said that the sanctions “will come off, when we are sure that the nukes are no longer a factor.” He went on to say, “I actually look forward to taking them off, and they’ll come off when we know we are down the road where it’s not going to happen.”
