With the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship entering its second week, the players from Switzerland and Italy were spotted ditching the ice rink for a football pitch on the backside of Ondrej Nepela Arena in Bratislava on Sunday.

Football came to the rescue of Swiss national team players and stars of NHL team Minnesota Wild and Colorado Avalanche, Kevin Fiala and Sven Andrighetto respectively, as they looked relaxed playing ball to calm frazzled nerves after losing a thrilling battle against Sweden 3-4 on Saturday.

The Italian team with their disastrous campaign which sees them at the bottom of the points table, looked to get over pre-game jitters before their all-important relegation game against Austria on Monday.

The 2019 IIHF World Championship kicked off in Slovakia on May 10 with matches played in two host cities – the country’s capital of Bratislava and second largest city of Kosice. The semifinals, the final and the match for the bronze will be played in Bratislava at the over 10,000-seat capacity Ondrej Nepela Arena. The tournament will wrap up on May 26.
