The Russian ice hockey team trained in Bratislava on Sunday ahead of its sixth match of the 2019 IIHF World Championship against 2018 silver medalist Switzerland.

Speaking to journalists in the mixed zone of the Ondrej Nepela Arena, Russian Head Coach Ilya Vorobyov commented on the match between his team’s two future rivals, Sweden and Switzerland, that took place on the night before.

“Indeed, it was a good and vivid match yesterday. They [Switzerland] are a good team, no wonder they were finalists last year. In fact, yesterday it was a match between the two finalists of last year’s world championship.”

On Saturday, Russia got its fifth straight victory following their 3-1 win over Latvia in their fifth match on the tournament.

With just two matches left in the preliminary round for Group B – against Switzerland on Sunday and the two-times defending champions Sweden on May 21 – the Red Machine has already booked their spot in the knockout stage.

It is still to be determined who will be their opponent in the quarterfinals and where Russia will have to play – Kosice or Bratislava.
