Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Seoul on Wednesday, for the second consecutive week to call for the resignation of South Korean President Moon Jae-in amid a corruption investigation into the country’s justice minister Cho Kuk, a recently-promoted ally of Moon.

The protest near state prosecutor’s offices followed a weekend demonstration in which pro-government forces mobilised thousands in support of Minister Kuk, who was questioned by police alongside his wife.

The couple are mired in accusations of lying in their child’s university application and profiteering from an investment in a private equity firm.

The scandal has seen Moon’s approval ratings slip to a record low of 40 per cent. Government supporters argue the criminal case against the justice minister is politically motivated.
