President of Catalonia Quim Torra urged Spanish President Pedro Sanchez to come “immediately” to the “negotiating table without conditions” for a “political solution” in Barcelona on Saturday.

“It is his obligation,” he added.

“For a long time we have been calling for this negotiation process for a political resolution to the political conflict. Today it is more urgent than ever,” stated the Catalan President.

On the fifth day of riots in Catalonia, Quim Torra defended that “no form of violence represents us. Democracy and the exercise of liberties represent us.”

Torra appeared at a press conference together with Vice-President Pere Aragones and the mayors of Tarragona, Pau Ricoma; Girona, Marta Madrenas; and Lleida, Miquel Pueyo.

Friday’s massive protest in the streets of Barcelona ended with at least 152 people injured, including journalists and citizens participating in the mobilization. Police reported that 18 officers were injured, with two in critical condition.
