Confrontations between protesters and police continued for a third day in Barcelona on Wednesday. Officers fired tear gas on demonstrators making barricades from garbage bins and starting fires on the streets as they rallied against prison sentences for Catalonia’s pro-independence leaders.
Protests began on Monday, after Spain’s Supreme Court jailed nine politicians for between nine and 13 years for their role in the Catalonia’s secession attempt and an illegal independence referendum. Three other leader were found guilty of disobedience and escaped prison.
