Palestinians in the Gaza Strip staged a general strike on Tuesday, against a US-led economic conference in Bahrain.

Shops, banks and universities were shut down during the strike, among other government institutions and private businesses.

The strike was reportedly called by the main Palestinian political factions to oppose US President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan, dubbed the ‘deal of the century’ by his supporters, which is to be unveiled during the two-day conference in the Bahraini capital of Manama.

The Palestinian opposition reportedly claims that the so-called ‘deal of the century’ neglects key political issues in the conflict with Israel.

One of the residents said, “We tell all the participants in the conference that what they are doing is worthless. We are the owners of the cause, and we are the ones who negotiate it.”
