Thousands of Palestinians protested across the West Bank, as filmed in Ramallah on Monday, against a US-led conference which begins in Bahrain on Tuesday. The two-day meeting is aimed at encouraging investment in the Palestinian territories, as the first part of US President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan.

“Trump will end the Palestinian cause and complete the occupation of Palestine and the destruction of the national identity of the Palestinian people, and turn the cause of the Palestinian people from the issue of freedom and independence to the cause of a humanitarian problem,” said Moataz Matar, a Palestinian National Council member.

The Palestinian authorities earlier said they would not take part in the conference in Manama.

“This conference is seeking in one way or another to normalize the Arab relations to the occupation in the region without political solutions,” said Dalal Salama from the Fatah Central Committee.

“It is an attempt to increase the pressure on the Palestinian issue, the severance of the Palestinian people’s money, the closure of our office in Washington and withholding of assistance for the Palestinian people,” she added.

Lebanon and Iraq joined the Palestinian boycott of the meeting while Jordan which will be taking part said economic decisions would not help solve political issues.
