Supporters of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange gathered outside the Embassy of Ecuador in London on Tuesday, after a judge at Westminster Magistrate’s Court ruled that Assange can be detained if he leaves the embassy.
The small crowd demanded the release of the WikiLeaks founder, and held posters reading “Don’t shoot the messenger” and “Free Assange”, amongst others.
“I think it’s just vengeance because here was a person and his organisation standing out from the crowd, exposing the State, its complicity and corruption,” said one Assange supporter named Roland.
He went on to comment that the wider implications “are rather serious because if the authorities can get away with this, they become more brazen with ignoring international law and even their own local laws.”
