Polling stations across London saw voters trickling in to cast their ballot on the first day of the European Parliamentary elections, in the backdrop of an uncertain Brexit and amid fears of rising extremism.
Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party, launched earlier this year, is expected to make major gains amongst voters, with one of his supporters comparing him to boxing legend Mohammad Ali’s famous catchphrase “floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee.”
Another supporter went on to say that he is “fed up with listening to the main parties” and only Farage “speaks any sense.”
With frustration over the Brexit process seen as a common thread among voters, the Conservative and Labour parties are predicted to suffer severe losses, with the Liberal Democrats and Brexit Party expected to benefit from it.
Britons are due to elect 73 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) but the government said they would not take up their seats if the country leaves the EU by the end of June.
