Dozens of pensioners gathered outside the BBC office in Belfast on Tuesday holding banners and placards to protest against the UK government’s decision to take away the free TV licenses for people over 75 years of age.
Britain’s biggest pensioner organisation, the National Pensioners Convention (NPC), called for these demonstrations entitled ‘Don’t Switch Us Off’ around the country as a mark of protest.
Kieran McCarthy, a retired Northern Ireland politician called this latest development an “absolute disgrace” for the ruling government.
