Fashion designer and activist Vivienne Westwood said she was “thrilled to bits” to see Wikileaks founder Julian Assange at HMP Belmarsh in south London on Tuesday.

During the impromptu press conference, Westwood said that Assange was being held in solitary confinement.

She also likened Assange to a “freedom fighter” facing a potential sentence of 175 years in jail “for telling the truth”.

The punk doyenne is one of several celebrity supporters of Assange, alongside Pamela Anderson, Lady Gaga and Eric Cantona.
