Ukrainians held a candle lit procession on the Heavenly Hundred Heroes avenue in Kiev on Sunday evening, to mark the anniversary of the Maidan protests of 2014.
The attendees placed flowers and lit candles at a monument dedicated to the ‘Heavenly Hundred,’ a term used in Ukraine to refer to the 130 activists who died in the unrest.
The Euromaidan Revolution reached its peak during February 2014, and culminated in then Ukrainian president Victor Yanukovych being ousted from office. The wave of protests was followed by the secession of Crimea and ongoing conflict in the eastern, Russian-speaking parts of the country.
