A panel of judges of the Podolsky district court of Kiev on Tuesday, ruled to extend the detention term of RIA Novosti Ukraine Editor-in-Chief Kirill Vyshinsky until May 24.

The ruling came at the request of the prosecution team who had petitioned for a preventive measure against the defendant.

Vyshinsky’s legal representatives attempted to dismiss the panel of judges citing their bias, but the court refused to disqualify the panel.

The RIA journalist is being held on suspicion of treason, which carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
