Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas met in Kiev on Wednesday to discuss the security situation in Donbass in light of the upcoming Normandy Format summit in December, as reported by Zelenskiy’s official press service.

During the talks, Zelenskiy thanked Maas for his support in the protection of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. In addition, the Ukrainian leader stressed the way Germany provided assistance in restoring damaged infrastructure in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).

Zelenskiy was further hopeful ahead of the Normandy Format summit, and expressed belief that the meeting would contribute to a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbass.

Both officials also discussed Ukraine-Germany relations, particularly in relation to European and Euro-Atlantic integration for Kiev.

The Normandy Four summit between the leaders of France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine is set to take place in Paris on Dec 9.
