USA: Florida’s ‘Forgotten Coast’ mauled by Hurricane Michael

GoPro footage captured scenes of destruction caused by Hurricane Michael on Florida’s ‘Forgotten Coast’ on Thursday.

Roads were strewn with rubble and blocked by fallen trees and abandoned vehicles, with downed powerlines also presenting a dangerous problem. Florida’s ‘Forgotten Coast’ is in the north west of the state and stretches from Mexico Beach, near where the storm made landfall, to Apalachee Bay.

At least six people are reported to have died after the category four storm swept through Florida early on Thursday, with the death toll expected to rise as rescue efforts continue.

Hurricane Michael is the strongest storm to make landfall in the continental United States in almost half a century, and the strongest hurricane ever to hit in October.
