USA: ‘Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury benefits from high-altitude training

Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury was keen to demonstrate his preparedness at the Wild Card West boxing gym on Thursday ahead of his showstopping bout against WBC world champion Deontay Wilder.

The British heavyweight, sporting colourful shorts, sparred with a training partner to a classic soul soundtrack.

Fury has based himself at Big Bear Lake in California nearly 7,000 feet (2,135m) above sea level for the past three weeks.

“It is very hard, to be honest, very hard. The air is thin up there and it’s very hard to breathe,” he told reporters.

“I’m enjoying every minute of it and it’s going to prepare me very good for the fight.”

Fury faces a tough opponent in Wilder who has a record of 40 wins – 39 by knockout – from 40 bouts. The two meet at Los Angeles Staples Center on December 1.
