Hurricane Michael swept through Panama City, Florida, on Wednesday and Thursday, causing significant damage to public and private property in less than two hours.
Flooding, uprooted trees, fallen billboards and traffic lights could be seen all across town, reportedly causing disruption to daily life and public services.
The Category 4 hurricane rapidly evolved from a tropical depression, reaching winds of 150 miles/h (240km/h). Some regions of Florida will experience storm surges of up to 14ft (4m) and flash floods are expected in the wake of forecast torrential rain.
Authorities have urged residents of certain Florida towns and settlements to evacuate or take shelter, but many have reportedly not fled. Two people were reported killed so far.
It is the third strongest storm to come ashore in the continental United States and the strongest October hurricane since records began.
