US President Donald Trump threatened to deploy the US military if governors and mayors across the country fail to deal with rioters. The remarks came as he gave a speech at the Rose Garden outside the White House in Washington DC on Monday.
Trump urged local authorities to ensure a strong law enforcement presence to quell unrest. “If a city or state refuses to take the actions that are necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them,” he warned.
The US president labelled certain group, such as Antifa, as “instigators of violence”, and vowed to prosecute all those threatening the life and property of innocent citizens.
Trump also said he was fully committed to bring justice to George Floyd’s death, adding he would not have died in vain.
The US president spoke moments after riot police tried to disperse peaceful protesters, deploying rubber bullets and tear gas outside the White House.
