Some barriers were removed by Seattle police and other city employees in the city’s occupation protest and self-declared autonomous zone in the neighbourhood of Capitol Hill (CHOP), on Tuesday.

Graffiti and some of the street art were also being removed by city employees.

While some barriers came down, protesters are reported to have erected a makeshift barricade as a replacement to preserve the police-free area.

The Cal Anderson Park was seen mostly cleared up, as some demonstrators who had been staying in tents left.

According to reports, the barriers surrounding Seattle Police’s East Precinct are not planned to be removed. The station was abandoned earlier this month amid clashes in the wake of the anti-racism protests.

Moves to dismantle the zone came amid a shooting on Monday, which killed one and injured another person.
