Venezuela: Chavistas demand blockade recognition from UN

Thousands of Chavistas rallied in central Caracas on Friday, as a United Nations commission delegation met with Venezuelan government officials.

Representatives of the protesters submitted a document for the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, urging the UN to “recognise and condemn the blockade against Venezuela.”

“The General Assembly of the United Nations condemns the blockade of Cuba year on year, which Cuba has rightly defeated in the eyes of the world, as a diplomatic battle. Today, Venezuela is also asking the UN to recognise that this blockade exists and to condemn it,” said one protester.

Bachelet and her team are visiting the country until 22 March to assess the ongoing economic, social and political crisis.
