Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro oversaw military drills and called on his compatriots to “join this comprehensive national plan for the defence of sovereignty and peace,” when speaking to thousands of soldiers in the state of Miranda on Sunday.
The drills will reportedly last until February 15 and are expected to become the largest exercises in the country’s history.
The armed forces have so far remained loyal to the government, despite international pressure calling on the military to topple Maduro in a coup.
