Hundreds rallied in the streets of Sanaa on Friday to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of senior Houthi official Saleh al-Sammad. Houthi officials say al-Sammad, who led the Houthi Supreme Political Council until his death, was killed in a Saudi-led coalition drone strike on April 19, 2018.
Participants of the demonstration listened to speeches as they held banners and posters featuring pictures of al-Sammad.
“We went out on this day to tell the world that the Yemeni people are ready to sacrifice themselves, are steadfast and unwavering until they attain victory, God willing,” said Houthi official Ahmed Faye.
“Just as the blood of President Saleh al-Sammad triumphed, so the Yemenis today are able to triumph,” he added.
Al-Sammad was killed in an air strike along with six affiliates following a meeting with local dignitaries in Hodeidah, Houthi officials say.
