🇮🇳 Do small farmers still have a future in India? | The Stream
Tens of thousands of Indian farmers continue to occupy roads outside New Delhi to call for the full repeal of farm reforms they believe would favour large agribusiness over small farmers. Supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi say the liberalisation of India’s agricultural markets is needed to jumpstart production, ensure food security for the nation, and usher in a “Green Revolution 2.0”. So far, talks between protest leaders and the government have not been enough to allay farmers’ fears and halt more than two months of demonstration.
In this episode of The Stream, we’ll discuss what needs to be done to truly improve the lives of Indian farmers.
