Thousands took to the streets of Buenos Aires on Saturday to demand the release of Argentine activist Milagro Sala on the fifth anniversary of her arrest.
Protesters were seen marching through the city with flags, and throwing trash bags in front of the capital’s Supreme Court building.
The general secretary of ‘We are all homeland’ Analia Iraola explained that the protesters were throwing garbage bags because the court has become the ” trash dump of democracy.”
Sala, who is the leader of the Argentine political organisation Tupac Amaru, was arrested in January 16, 2016 in Jujuy, accused of instigating riots in a protest against provincial governor Gerardo Morales, an ally of former conservative president Mauricio Macri, who had been in office for a month.
The court upheld the 13-year sentence handed down to Sala and other 29 activists in the ‘Pibes Villeros’ case.
