Thousands of protesters gathered at Plaza de la Dignidad in Santiago, on Friday, to mark one year of rallying against the social crisis that has affected the country since October of last year.
“In Chile the only way to solve problems is a revolution, a revolution that understands changes in all kinds of things, real changes,” said one of the protesters.
The wave of demonstrations against the rising cost of living, pension reform and police violence, which started one year ago, is considered to be the worst in a decade.
This Friday’s rally is reportedly the largest one since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in the country in March.
The referendum where more than14 million people should decide whether to amend the new constitution and rewrite the old one, established in 1980 under the rule of General Augusto Pinochet, is about to take place on October 25.
