A man in the El Salvador city of Santa Tecla was seen wearing a hoop around his waist to show the necessary social distancing to prevent COVID-19 contagion, last Wednesday.

Hoop-wearer Douglas Garcia said his reason to don such an outfit was “to indicate social distancing” and raise awareness about coronavirus prevention practices such as sanitising hands and wearing a mask.

Garcia was seen distributing masks and sanitising hands of passersby around Santa Tecla.

“I find it curious because they’re showing the distance we have to maintain between people because if I want to approach him I can’t,” said Santa Tecla resident Santos Escamilla.

El Salvador has 26,688 registered cases of coronavirus and 774 related deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
