Hundreds of Extinction Rebellion (XR) protesters rallied at Potsdamer Platz square in central Berlin on Monday, calling for urgent action on climate change as part of a global day of protest.

Footage shows activists seated on the road at the intersection bearing signs with slogans such as “Act now!” and “We also block for your future.”

The environmental campaigners also disrupted traffic by occupying the roundabout that surrounds the German capital’s famous Victory Column and reportedly set up a tent in front of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s office and the Reichstag.

Berlin is set for a long day of protests by activists from XR who have proclaimed a day of action, with similar demonstrations planned across Germany, Europe, and around the world.
