Italy: Tensions flare in Milan at protest against new COVID-19 restrictions

Protesters rallied in Milan on Monday against new coronavirus restrictions.

People marched through the streets carrying flares and letting off fireworks, police responded with tear gas trying to disperse protesters.

According to reports at least two people were detained.

The government has implemented restrictive measures across various parts of the country in an attempt to curb a rising infection rate.

The new round of measures includes the closure of bars and restaurants at 6:00 pm, as well as closing gyms, cinemas, and swimming pools.

Italy has registered 542,789 cases of the coronavirus with 37,479 deaths related to it, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
