Live from Lesbos as Germany to take in 1,500 migrants from the island

Ruptly is live from Lesbos on Wednesday, September 17, where migrants are reacting to the confirmation that Germany will take in an additional 1,500 people who currently being held on the Greek islands.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Interior Minister Horst Seehofer announced the plans to accept the migrants on Tuesday, September 16 but had to wait for final agreement within the governing coalition amid disagreements over how many people to welcome.

Thousands of migrants have been forced to evacuate following the fires that broke out at the Moria refugee camp on Wednesday, September 9, burning large parts of it to the ground.

The Moria migrant camp was the largest in Europe, exceeding almost four times its maximum capacity of 3,100 people, hosting around 13,000 migrants living in poor sanitary conditions.
