Live from Paris as second national lockdown gets underway

The new measures include allowing citizens to leave home only to go to work, school, for a medical appointment, to assist loved ones, for essential shopping or for one hour of physical exercise.

Non-essential businesses, such as restaurants and bars, will close, but schools, factories and other essential businesses will remain open.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced the move to tackle the spread of COVID-19, during a televised address at the Elysee Palace in Paris on Wednesday evening.
