President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is delivering the State of the Union address before the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday, September 16.
During the address, the president is expected to point out the achievements of the past year and present the priorities for the next, such as the European Green Deal and the Digital Strategy. She is also expected to address the most urgent challenges facing the European Union , including the coronavirus pandemic and its economic consequences.
The address will commence by introductory remarks by EU Parliament President David Sassoli and followed by a debate, where MEPs will have a chance to comment and discuss the work and plans of the European Commission.
This will be Von der Leyen’s first State of the Union address since she took office in December 2019.
