The South Ossetian football team beat Western Armenia 1:0 in the final of the third CONIFA European Football Championship in Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh on Sunday.

Twelve teams representing 30 million people across Europe were expected to participate in the tournament; however, four teams from County of Nice, Autonomous Region of Sardinia, as well as from Donetsk People’s Republic and Lugansk People’s Republic withdrew.

CONIFA President for Europe Alberto Rischio mentioned that with the 2019 tournament the organisation “showed to Europe and all over the world what Artsakh is.” “We destroyed any bad words, bad thoughts about Artsakh and we showed real life and real way of Artsakh,” he added.

The Confederation of Independent Football Associations (CONIFA) was founded on June 7, 2013 and is a global non-profit organization that supports representatives of international football teams from nations, de-facto nations, regions, minority peoples and sports isolated territories.

The first CONIFA World Football Cup took place in June 2014 in Ostersund, Sweden.
