Pakistan: At least 8 killed in bomb attack at Peshawar religious school

At least eight people were killed and 123 injured in an explosion at a religious school in Peshawar on Tuesday, according to local authorities.

The explosion took place at around 08:30 (03:30 GMT) at the Jamia Zuberia religious school in the southern outskirts of Peshawar.

Debris was seen strewn across the floor of the Jamia Zuberia religious school’s prayer hall, with pockmarks and blood seen on walls.

At the time of the blast, around 500 students were reportedly attending a lecture by cleric Rahimullah Haqqani.

According to reports citing Peshawar Police Chief Mohammad Ali Gandapur, the blast was caused by an IED with 5-6 kilogrammes of explosives inside an abandoned bag.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
