The Indian army says it has concluded an inquiry ordered into a July 18 incident in which three young men were gunned down in south Kashmir.
The army suggested that the powers vested under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) were “exceeded during the operation” in a remote village of Amshipora in Shopian.
In July, soldiers gunned down three young local men it had described as Pakistani “terrorists”.
This rare admission of wrongdoing came after families filed a complaint accusing soldiers of killing them in a “fake encounter”.
Al Jazeera’s Charles Stratford reports.
