Members of the Emergency Military Unit (UME) began disinfection work at the Lope de Vega Cultural Center in Madrid’s Puente de Vallecas district on Tuesday night. Puente de Vallecas is one of the neighborhoods in Madrid that has seen a recent increase in cases of COVID-19.
Footage shows the workers of the Medical Emergency Service of Madrid (SUMMA) processing PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests, which were taken en-masse in the facility on Tuesday morning. Following this, UME staff arrived at the site and begin disinfection dressed in hazmat suits.
On Tuesday morning, the General Directorate of Public Health summoned almost 1,000 residents to the Lope de Vega Cultural Center via SMS message for PCR tests.
Madrid is the region currently most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain, with 13,449 new positive results since Friday.
