Low-income families lined up to receive Qatari financial grants at post offices in the Gaza Strip on Sunday.

Local residents could be seen queuing outside the Al-Remal post office to collect their $100 (€89) cash assistance.

The money is being provided to 60,000 families by the Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which announced the details on its website.

Many of the recipients confirmed that the cash assistance was a huge relief and helps them meet daily living expenses, in an area with few employment opportunities. “If I don’t get it, I don’t know what to do because the situation is difficult and there is no work,” one of the beneficiaries said after receiving the assistance.

Others, however, lamented that more needed to be done to increase the financial stability of the people of Gaza.

“The moment the money from the grant reaches my wallet, it disappears,” one man said, explaining that that after he pays his bills, he has no money left over for anything else.
