Anti-racist activists organised a rally in front of the Tudor Rose musical venue in West London on Wednesday, to draw attention to the importance of the location for the local Black community.
“This building was built and designed for the community of Southall, in particular the Black people. We worked hard to retain this building, the history means a lot to our people,” said rally organiser, Ursula.
“We, the people of Southall are fighting to keep this building together… we cannot allow London borough of Ealing to destroy yet another building, and particularly a Black-owned business,” she added.
Tudor Rose is an iconic venue in the neighbourhood of Southall, and an important centre of the city’s Afro-Caribbean community. The local council has the building set for demolition to make way for a housing estate.
